Doctoral Student Earns Women in Transportation SW Idaho Leadership Scholarship

Engineering doctoral student Nuzhat Yamin is the winner of the $1,500 Women in Transportation (WTS) SW Idaho Leadership Scholarship. Yamin will advance to the national scholarship competition for a chance to earn $5,000. WTS awards scholarships to women pursuing careers in transportation through an undergraduate or graduate program. Awards are based on transportation goals, academic standing and demonstration of skills and abilities in leadership.

Yamin completed her undergraduate in electrical engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology. She was accepted to University of Idaho, where she obtained her Master of Science and is pursuing her doctorate under advisor Mohamed Hefeida in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. She is currently an active member of the Graduate and Professional Student Association, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and Bangladeshi Association of Student and Scholars.

Yamin has studied intelligent transportation systems and is currently funded by the National Institute of Advanced Transportation Technology. She is studying to improve communication schemes of smart vehicles on highways where she hopes to have an impact on the transportation industry of the Pacific Northwest.
