Barton Named Chair of Department of Psychology and Communication Studies

Long-term faculty member Benjamin Barton will serve as the next chair of the Department of Psychology and Communication Studies, beginning Monday, Aug. 19. Barton has been with the U of I since 2008, earning the rank of associate professor in 2014. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in psychology from the University of Memphis and his Ph.D. in developmental psychology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Barton's research focuses on the application of developmental and human factor principles to the study on unintentional injury. Primarily, he studies the roles of visual and auditory information in relation to transportation safety and injury prevention.
