Congratulations to the Faculty/Staff International Development Award Recipients

The International Programs Office is pleased to announce the U of I faculty and staff who have been selected to receive Faculty/Staff International Development Awards (FIDA). Recipients of FIDAs participate in a three- to five-week summer language and culture program at one of the University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC) sites around the world. Program and tuition costs are included in the award. In addition, recipients receive an award of $2,750 that can used toward airfare and living expenses.

  • Shenghan Xu (Faculty, Business Dept.): International Business, Tourism, and Italian Studies (Verona, Italy) 
  • Jen Smith (Advising Liaison, Career Services): Politics, Culture and the Arts (Prague, Czech Republic) 
  • John Myers (Academic Success Counselor, Academic Support Programs): Spanish Language, Art, and Spanish/European Studies (Madrid, Spain)

  • Magdy Noguera (Faculty, Business Dept.): Spanish Language, European, Mediterranean, and Gender Studies (Alicante, Spain) 
  • Tara Roberts (Student Media Manager, Student Involvement): Italian Language, History, Mediterranean Studies, and the Arts (Viterbo, Italy)

The FIDA program is designed to offer an international experience to faculty and staff with limited or no prior international experience. Preference is given to applicants with regular and direct contact with students. The goals of the FIDA program include:

  1. Increasing awareness of U of I's education abroad programs,
  2. Providing an international experience for faculty and staff who may have never traveled abroad,
  3. Increase familiarity with USAC,
  4. Developing professional linkages with colleagues at USAC institutions, and
  5. Assisting with U of I internationalization efforts.
