U of I Sees Reduction in Electrical Usage in FY2019, Saving Campus Over $2M in Electrical Costs
October 29, 2019
Because of your diligence in turning off lights and the investment in technologies, the total campus electrical usage for FY2019 was significantly down in both demand and cost to the university. FY2019 witnessed a 13% ($2,602,644) reduction in total cost for electricity from FY2009, and a decrease in consumption of 19%. This savings was possible due to efforts to turn off the lights in unoccupied rooms, as well as investments in new and emerging technologies such as VFD, LED lighting and broader campus projects serving the interest of environmental stewardship. The university hopes to continue this trend.
