Ben Hunter Appointed to American Library Association Steering Committee

June 22, 2018

Ben Hunter, interim dean of University Libraries at the University of Idaho and American Library Association (ALA) Idaho Chapter Councilor, has been appointed to the association’s steering committee to guide the work of the ALA Organizational Effectiveness/Governance Review. The steering committee will work collaboratively with an executive team and an external consultant to help navigate choices relating to aligning ALA's organizational structure, policies, and rules with the association's 21st century values, key action areas and strategic directions to fulfill the mission of the American library in the 21st century.

Hunter has served as a librarian at U of I for 12 years. He was named the Idaho Library Association (ILA) Librarian of the Year in 2017, and U of I Library associate dean in 2014. He also served as the head of technical services and as a reference and instruction librarian. A Moscow native, Hunter is a third-generation Vandal. He first worked at the U of I Library as an undergraduate student in the 1990s.

Hunter's appointment was published in an announcement June 19 from 2017-18 ALA President Jim Neal. Lynn Baird, recently retired dean of U of I Libraries, announced Hunter's appointment in an email.

"This is an acknowledgement of the contributions Ben has made and will continue to make to our national professional association,” she said.
