CLASS Welcomes Three New Leaders

The College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences is excited to welcome three new leaders to its departments and schools this fall.
Jodie Nicotra steps into the role of chair for the Department of English. Nicotra has been at U of I since 2005, earning the rank of associate professor in 2011 and serving as associate chair of the Department of English since 2014. Nicotra's research and teaching focuses on rhetoric and composition.
Robin Johnson joins U of I as the director of the School of Journalism and Mass Media. Most recently, Johnson was an associate professor at Sam Houston State University. His research focuses on gender, technology, labor and digital media. His publications have centered on the role of masculinity in video game production culture.
Ellen Kittell, who is serving as interim chair of the Department of History, has been at U of I since 1993. She earned the rank of full professor in 2015 and has served as interim chair during the 2016 and 2017 spring semesters. Her research interests are pre-modern Europe (medieval, renaissance, reformation), women's history, social and legal history of Europe.
