Bio

After graduating in 2016 from Boise State with a degree in Criminal Justice, I moved back to my hometown of Chehalis, Washington to accept a job with the Board of County Commissioners. During this time, I worked with the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office on nearly a daily basis regarding a myriad of civil topics. From this, I very quickly learned I no longer wanted to do the background work to brief the Commissioners. Instead, I want a seat at the table to make the policy decisions affecting my community.

Fast forward to 2020, in the middle of a pandemic, I became a transfer student. My original law school closed practically out of nowhere. The University of Idaho graciously accepted any student who wanted to transfer. Already established in Boise, I jumped at the opportunity. Not only did this mean I didn’t have to move, I was also afforded the ability to add a master degree in Public Administration.

After law school, my dream job is to be elected as a commissioner in the county where I grew up. But in the meantime, I’d like to work in a small general practice firm that provides me with an ability to advocate for those who otherwise wouldn’t have access to or be able to navigate the legal system on their own.

Outside of law school, I love a good cup of coffee (like any other true Washingtonian), a craft beer, or to be outside enjoying all the Treasure Valley has to offer.

What advice would you offer to incoming 1L Law Students?

First, create a schedule and stick to it. Once you get your class schedule and syllabus, build a weekly schedule around that to include time for reading and outlining. Second, have an outlet. For me, this is playing indoor soccer every week. It is something I love to do and it’s not law school related. Third, have a friend group. While law school is inherently competitive, it doesn’t have to be cutthroat. Everyone is experiencing a similar stress level unique to law school. I wouldn’t be where I am without the positive connections made during my first year. Finally, take advantage of the extra materials provided to you. The resources provided through the library database and Barbri are very useful tools.
