Jason Naess

Jason Naess '10

When Jason Naess began researching law schools three years ago, he considered a list of criteria that included much more than a quality legal education.

“We wanted to be in a small town,” says the father of two preschool-aged children. “I was accepted to other schools in larger cities, but we wanted to be somewhere we felt safe, and where I could be part of a community and not just a student.”

Moscow wasn’t the only place Jason discovered the sense of community he desired.

“The College of Law has such an intimate atmosphere,” Jason says. “You get that feeling that we’re all in it together. From the professors to other students, everyone genuinely cares about your success.”

Jason, who holds a bachelor’s in horticulture and worked in urban planning for several years before attending law school, says he was drawn to the College of Law not only for the strong sense of community, but also because he was confident the college would equip him with the skills he needed to one day help make other communities stronger.

“While I was a city planner, I realized that I was more fascinated by the legal issues of planning and government work, rather than the technical aspects,” he says. “I knew that to be most happy in my career, I needed to go to law school.”

"You get that feeling that we're all in it together."
