Congrats to Jonathan Meier & Stephen Herring on Winning Paper Competition

Congratulations to Jonathan Meier (3L) and Stephen Herring (2L) on earning scholarship awards sponsored by the Idaho State Bar’s Business & Corporate Law Section. A panel of practicing attorneys and professors selected the award recipients based on students’ research papers.

Jonathan Meier’s paper, which earned the first-place award of $1,000, is titled “Getting to the Land of Milk and Honey: How to Improve the EB-5 Visa Regional Center.” Jonathan is a 3L in Moscow, where he is pursuing the Business Law & Entrepreneurship Emphasis. Jonathan has focused his studies on business law and immigration, with the goal of pursuing a career in business immigration law. After taking the bar exam this summer, he will be joining Moss Immigration Law in Coeur d’Alene. Professor Wendy Couture served as his faculty advisor for this paper.

Stephen Herring’s paper, which earned the second-place award of $500, is titled “Friends Without Benefits? The Second Circuit’s Revised ‘Personal Benefit Test’ Has Left Wall Street in Limbo and Innocents at Risk.” Stephen is a 2L in Boise, where he is pursuing the Business Law & Entrepreneurship Emphasis. He is passionate about business law, drawing from his past experience working at a start-up and at an international awards show for innovators. This summer, he will be working at the Army Futures Command’s Center for Defense Innovation in Austin, Texas, as a JAG intern. Professor Wendy Couture served as his faculty advisor for this paper.

Both students wish to express their thanks to the Business & Corporate Law Section and to the following judges for volunteering their time: Brian Buckham, Steve Frinsko, Michelle Gustavson, Boyd Hawkins, Jordan Heller, Monique Lillard, Melissa Maxwell, Deborah McIntosh, Kendall Prohaska, John Rumel, and Richard Seamon.
