State Board of Education approves the University’s request to lease the building at 501 Front Street to serve as the College of Law’s Boise campus.
June 29, 2021
Dear Alumni and Friends,
I write with some exciting news. As some of you may know, the College has been bursting at the seams for some time at its Boise location, and we have been exploring a variety of ways to expand our footprint to comfortably accommodate our growing community.
Yesterday, the State Board of Education approved the University’s request to lease the building at 501 Front Street to serve as the College of Law’s Boise campus. Many of you know this property as the former home to Concordia University School of Law. The current owner of 501 Front Street is a Vandal alumnus and longtime benefactor, Jeff Stoddard. He came to us just weeks ago with this proposal to partner as he considered purchasing the building. While the Idaho Law Justice & Learning Center has been a wonderful home for us as we have built the Boise program over the last decade, 501 Front Street has the classroom, office, and library space we need to provide our growing student body with a quality learning environment.
We anticipate that all Boise-based law classes will be held in the Front Street building beginning in Spring 2022. With the support of the Idaho Supreme Court, the Idaho State Law Library will also relocate to the Front Street location at that time, and we will continue and expand upon the civic education programming that was launched through the ILJLC. We will also continue to invest in the Menard Law Building on the Moscow campus, where applicants and demand are growing.
We gratefully recognize the people, including many of you, who made the expansion in Boise possible over the past decade. Our current successes are due to this vision and tireless effort. The move to 501 Front Street will allow us to better meet our land grant mission of providing quality legal education and services to Idahoans.
As always, I welcome your advice and ideas, and I look forward to working with you to improve the ways the College of Law serves our students and the community.
With best wishes,
Dean and Professor of Law
