University of Idaho Law Faculty Present and Take on Leadership Roles at Association of American Law Schools Annual Meeting

In early January 2019, College of Law faculty descended on New Orleans to attend the Association of American Law Schools Annual Meeting.  At the meeting, faculty from around the country and world present on issues of legal and academic interest.  Faculty also engage in leadership opportunities that further the mission of the organization and its sections.  Congratulations to the University of Idaho law faculty who made a big impact at the meeting in the following ways:

  • Professor Wendy Couture was selected as the Chair-Elect of the Securities Regulation Section in 2019.
  • Professor Benjamin Cover agreed to serve on the Executive Committee of the Election Law Section in 2019.
  • Associate Dean Jeffrey A. Dodge was elevated to Chair of the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Issues Section in 2019.
  • Professor Kate Evans presented her paper “Detainers, Discretion, and State Law's Historical Constraints,” forthcoming in the Brooklyn Law Review, at the Immigration Law Section’s Session, “New Voices in Immigration Law.” She was selected to participate following a call for papers.
  • Following an open call for papers in the legal academy, Professor Katherine Macfarlane’s paper, “Modes of Resistance: Stakeholder Responses to Proposed ADA Amendments,” was the sole selection for presentation at the Disability Law Section’s panel. The panel was co-sponsored by the Law, Medicine and Health Care Section as well as the Civil Rights Section. Professor Macfarlane was also selected to serve on the Executive Committee of the Civil Rights Section in 2019.
  • Professor John Rumel was re-appointed to serve on the Executive Committee of the Education Law Section in 2019.
  • Professor Shaakirrah Sanders served as chair of the Constitutional Law Section in 2018, moderated a panel celebrating the 18th Amendment’s Centennial, and organized a program that reflected on 100 years of incitement jurisprudence. The Constitutional Law Section also held a cocktail reception at the Louisiana Supreme Court. Professor Sanders will also serve as Secretary of the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Issues Section in 2019.
