Self Help: Setting up your Security Profile

Setting up your Security Profile

An ITS account was created for you upon admission. This account is used to access resources such as campus email, labs, and networks. This tutorial will walk you through setting up an account as a new student.

Step 1

Log in to the account management page at https://help.uidaho.edu using your NetID username and password. If you have not set up your security profile, you will be greeted with a pop-up asking you to set up your security profile. Click setup security profile to continue.

You can also opt out of the security profile, but this will mean that anytime you forgot your password expires, you will need to visit the ITS Help Desk in person to have it reset.

Step 2

The first step of setting up your security profile is setting up three or more security questions. On the security questions page, click the add button to begin adding security questions.

A new window will pop up with a drop-down list of approved security questions and a field for you to type in your answer. Select a question from the drop-down list and type in your answer, which much be at least five characters long. With both fields filled out, click the Add Question button.

The prompt will stay up and the question will be added to your list. Continue to add up to three questions. Once you have finished, click the close button to close the security question window and then click the link for Security Contacts to continue.

Step 3

You will need to add at least one security contact to your security profile. A security contact is any non-UI email address or phone number that you have access to that can be used to receive a security code and reset your password.

Click on the new button to bring up the Security Contact screen. On this screen, you can select to add either an email address or a phone number set up for either text or voice communication. Please note that if you set your phone number for text service, carrier rates for text messages may apply.

Enter your contact and click the Send Verification Code button. This will send a verification email or text message depending on your contact selection. If you input a voice phone number, you will receive a call with your verification code.

Obtain this code and enter it in the new window to verify your contact. It will be added to the list and how up with a green background, confirming it is verified. You can verify as many contacts as you would like.

Step 4

Your security profile is now fully set up. You can use the profile to change your NetID password remotely, or your VandalMail password if you are an alumni/retiree, if you have forgotten it. You can view our security profile password reset view to learn more about the process.
