Microsoft Lync is a feature-rich instant messaging and video chat client that is available to students, faculty and staff at the University of Idaho at no extra cost as part of your Office 365 email account.

Installing Lync

Lync is available for both Microsoft Windows and Apple Macintosh OS X operating systems. Mobile clients are also available for Android, iOS, and Windows Phone 8 devices.

Lync Basics

Microsoft Lync allows you to easily communicate with colleagues, office-mates, inter-departmental contacts and even students via instant messaging to get answers quickly and efficiently.

Lync offers many great, easy-to-use "basic" features such as this. You can learn more about instant messaging, how to add contacts and use basic Lync features in our introduction to Lync tutorial.

Lync Advanced Features

Microsoft Lync is more than just an instant messaging client. Its advanced features include screen and document sharing for easy collaboration, a built-in "whiteboard/chalkboard" feature, and the ability to present PowerPoint presentations and incorporate participant-wide polls.

Lync OWA
