New Students

What New Students need to know about ITS

ITS welcomes new students by providing best-effort assistance and convenient resources. The information below will help you setup your credentials to access the many services the provided by ITS and the University.

The credentials for your account are called your NetID. This is your key to access University computer and electronic resources including: Student E-mail, VandalWeb, Wireless Access, BbLearn, Campus Computer Labs, kiosks, and many other resources. Please take a few minutes to watch the videos then proceed to https://vandalsetup.uidaho.edu/ to setup your account.

If you need assistance we can be reached by calling us at (208) 885-4357 or through email at helpdesk@uidaho.edu.

Welcome to the University of Idaho and Go Vandals!

The NetID

Your NetID is a username/password used to access almost every service at the University of Idaho. Your NetID will typically be the first four letters of your last name and the last four numbers of your V-Number (eg. vand1234).

This NetID username and password (which you can create in the steps below) is the key to accessing all University of Idaho resources, including Email, BbLearn, VandalWeb, Student Computing Labs and the Software Download page.

Setting up your NetID Account

Video Walk-through

ITS has created a step-by-step webpage to assist new students in setting up their University of Idaho NetID accounts for first-time use. To begin the process, please navigate to https://vandalsetup.uidaho.edu

Make sure you have your acceptance letter and your student ID number (a eight-digit number of the form xxx-xxxxx) close by. If you do not have your acceptance letter or do not know your student ID number, please call the office of the Registrar at (208) 885-6731 and they can release the information to you.

The video above walks you through the VandalSetup process, or you can follow the text instructions below at your own pace.

Text Walk-through

Step 1: Start VandalSetup

On the first page of the Vandal Setup process, click the large "Next Step: Go To Password Reset Button. This will take you to the remote password reset page.

Step 2: Re-Captcha

Enter the re-captcha information you see to proceed - this check is to keep spammers and bots out of the system.

Step 3: Find your Account

To find your account, enter your student ID number (including the dash between the first three and last five digits) or @vandals email address and hit the lookup button.

Step 4: Verify your Account

A list of verified contacts will come up, which are populated from your University of Idaho application. Select an email address or phone number and hit the send code button. This will send a temporary code to either your selected email or phone (via text or voice). Obtain this code through your secondary email or phone and enter the six-digit code into the new text box that has appeared. Be sure to keep the help.uidaho.edu page open.

Step 5: Setup Your Security Profile

Once you enter the code, you will be taken to the account management page. Here you will be asked to set up your security profile (more information on your security profile can be found here). This will allow you to reset your password in the future.

Step 6: Set a Password

Here you will be able to set a password on the account. Keep an eye on the red text below the password boxes. This text will let you know if your password meets the requirements.

Remember: this username/password combination is called your NetID and is your primary log-in to UI computing resources.
