Bobby Cowan - Senior- Football - Vancouver, Wash.
Every little boy who has turned out for Pop Warner football dreams of playing college ball. As a youngster growing up in Vancouver, Wash., Bobby Cowan was no different. By the time he graduated from Evergreen High School, he was gaining the attention of college recruiters. But, it wasn’t until he’d redshirted for the Vandals as a freshman, that his devotion was rewarded with a scholarship. He’s making the most of the opportunity to play and is grateful for the financial assistance along the way.
“To earn that scholarship is huge,” Cowan said. “It’s a great accomplishment.”
Earning the scholarship isn’t Cowan’s only great accomplishment. It is very likely that by the time he graduates with his Marketing degree next spring, he’ll be the owner of almost all – if not all, the punting records at Idaho. Most impressive is his career average per punt of 45.2 yards – a hefty mark over the course of 188 punts. Football, however, is so much more than his personal achievements, which include Football Writers of America Association All-America honors along with one first-team and one second-team all-Western Athletic Conference honors.
“Scholarship or not, though, I come out and just want to do the best I can on the field for the team,” said Cowan, whose best single punt covered 76 yards.
If he could shake the hands that wrote the checks for his scholarship, he would say this: “Thank you very much. I appreciate it greatly. I’m very blessed to be in this position.”
