Workers Compensation
Employees, including student paid employees and student interns, who experience a work-related injury or illness should immediately seek appropriate medical attention. An injury that does require professional medical treatment or lost time from work will be classified as an accident. An injury or an illness that does not require professional medical treatment or lost time from work will be classified as an incident.
Employees, student paid employees, and student interns (site accident) injured at work have a right to file a workers compensation claim. It is extremely important that a claim is filed with CorVel for any accident where the employee has sought medical attention. Employees are also encouraged to call CorVel to report an incident even if medical attention is not necessary at the time of report.
- Employees needing emergency care are directed to call 911 or use any emergency room.
- If medical care is sought, inform provider of workers compensation claim to avoid billing personal insurance.
- Follow up care must be coordinated through CorVel and the designated providers program.
- Notify your supervisor of the incident.
- Report accident/incident to CorVel at 844-213-2099.
If you are injured at work, whether or not you intend to seek medical care, file with CorVel within 48 hours of the event. Quick reporting will help you comply with Idaho law regarding workers compensation and assist with the accident investigation efforts to mitigate the root cause of the accident.
CorVel will notify Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) directly, and then EHS will contact you to discuss how the accident occurred and look for ways to prevent additional injuries.
CorVel manages all aspects of your claim, including claim details, medical care coordination, billing, etc. Questions regarding your claim should be directed to the claims adjuster.

When reporting time loss due to a workers compensation eligible injury, please consult with Benefit Services as various rules apply to the use of accumulated leave in coordination with workers compensation wage replacement benefits. Coordination with the various programs is important to avoid inaccurate payments.

The intent of the designated providers program is to strengthen the WC benefit for our employees. Designated providers will help employees make safe, strong recoveries from accidents, and provide appropriate referrals as needed. Employees needing emergency care due to a Workers Compensation injury can go to any emergency care facility. The designated providers will apply only to follow up care for a Workers Compensation injury.
Employees who cannot access one of these designated providers should discuss their concerns with the CorVel adjuster.

The University of Idaho is self-insured for workers compensation and has hired a claims adjusting company to assist with workers compensation claims. The name of this company is CorVel. If you file a claim, you will be contacted by a CorVel adjustor to help you with your workers compensation claim. If you have any questions about your workers compensation claim, contact the claims adjustor. Please be sure to keep scheduled medical appointments and cooperate with others to help you through your claim. If needed, your claims adjustor will assign a nurse claims manager.
The university’s Benefit Services can assist with other benefits, such as Family Medical Leave, and is the office you will coordinate with regarding medical notes, doctor releases, etc., as it relates to the employment aspect of the injury. Do not provide this information to your supervisor or department. If you can return to work for “light duties,” the university will look for opportunities for you. Please discuss any issues or concerns with these professionals.

CorVel
- CorVel is the University of Idaho's third-party administrator (TPA) in Boise, ID. CorVel is a workers compensation management company who assists University of Idaho employees with management of their workers compensation claim and makes workers compensation payments for medical care and lost time.
