Commuting Tips and Trails

Bicycling on the Palouse

Dedicated bicycle paths, surface street bicycle lanes, sharrows, ubiquitous bicycle racks, service stations, bicycle shops, bicycling clubs and hundreds of enthusiasts make our corner of the Palouse extraordinarily bicycle-friendly.

Whether you’re bicycling for pleasure or commuting to school or work, it’s easy to plan a bicycle-friendly route. Augmenting existing infrastructure, SMART Transit buses allow seamless transitions from pedaling to riding. Bicycle racks on the front of every bus and fare-free service mean going a little farther or taking a break from adverse weather conditions is quick, easy and free!

Moscow’s already robust bicycling infrastructure is rapidly expanding. In 2019 alone, the Highway 8 Underpass near Styner Avenue and the 3rd Street Pedestrian Bridge over Paradise Creek opened to great fanfare and immediate use. An underpass allowing pedestrian and bicycle traffic under Highway 95 at Sweet Avenue is also under consideration.
