  • Ph.D., University of Texas at Dallas 1978

Robert Hiromoto's research in HPC lead to the development of the concept of information-based algorithmic design (IBAD). This technique is an extension of his experience with computational parallelism and the work "Information-Based Complexity," by J.F. Traub et al. IBAD is a high-level approach to optimization reasoning.

Robert Hiromoto received his doctorate in physics from the University of Texas at Dallas. From there, he moved to the Los Alamos National Laboratory where he spent 12 years as a staff member working on parallel processing research. Hiromoto moved to the University of Texas at San Antonio as professor of computer science, lead the CS program and established the Center for High Performance Computing and Network Research. In 2002, Hiromoto moved to the University of Idaho at Moscow as the department chair, and in 2009 he moved to the U of I Idaho Falls campus as professor and affiliate of the Center for Advanced Energy Studies (CAES).

  • Fulbright Scholar — Ternopil National Economic University, Ternopil Ukraine, 2013-14.
  • Science & Engineering Research Council, UK Research Fellow at Glasgow University (worked with Simon Peyton Jones, major developer of the Haskell compiler)
