In 2014, President Chuck Staben made the completion of the appropriate work-related training modules a requirement for all University faculty, staff and student employees. These training modules are intended to provide employees with additional knowledge, skills, and career development and are a critical component of the university’s compliance program.

President Staben has made the completion of the following online training modules in 2016 a requirement for all faculty, staff, and student employees.

University-Wide Work Related Training (all employees)

Total time required to complete the 2016 modules is one hour.

  • IT Security
  • Diversity & Inclusion at the University of Idaho
  • Safety & Security Awareness at the University of Idaho
  • Our Inclusive Workplace (successful completion in 2015 fulfills this requirement)
  • University of Idaho Mission and Goals
  • University of Idaho Stewardship of Resources (successful completion in 2015 fulfills this requirement)

Job-Specific Work Related Training for Supervisors and Managers

Supervisors and managers, including department and program heads (e. g. principal investigators) are required to complete the following online training modules. Total time required to complete the 2016 modules is approximately three hours:

  • Performance Management
  • Performance Evaluation
  • Navigating the Employment Legal Landscape (two modules covering FLSA, ADA, FMLA, Documentation & Policies)
  • Strategies for Selection and Hiring Success

The completion period for the final three employee modules (Diversity & Inclusion, Public Safety and Security and IT Security) is October 1 - December 21, 2016.

New employees with employment start dates on or after Jan. 5, 2016 and new supervisors are required to complete all required training modules within 30 days of their employment start date or their start date with new responsibilities.

All employees will be required to participate in refresher training (review of required training modules) every three years.

Successful completion of these training modules will positively affect an employee’s annual performance evaluation and may positively affect future pay determinations.

Each training module takes no more than 35 minutes to complete and can be completed over multiple sessions if necessary.

Employees are notified of required training through their supervisors and via email. Email notices will include a link to and instructions for accessing the modules, along with information about course requirements and due dates. Training notices are only sent to official University of Idaho email addresses ending in @uidaho.edu (employees) or @vandals.uidaho.edu (students).

The module is best viewed in either Internet Explorer or Google Chrome. You will need speakers or headphones. If you need assistance finding a computer to complete your training, please contact your departmental Affirmative Action Coordinator (AAC).

Please see the list of AAC’s on the HR Website.

Persons with disabilities who require alternative means for communication or reasonable accommodations may call 208-885-3478.

Here are the steps to follow to successfully complete the module.

  1. Select the links sent to you via email or visit our Work Related Training page to access each training module.
  2. You will be asked to log in with your University of Idaho Network ID and password. The training module will open, and you will need to proceed through all slides and quizzes.
  3. Do not close out of the training or leave the training paused for an extended period of time as you may experience loss of data. In addition, avoid using the previous button to review material until you have successfully completed the module.

At the conclusion of the module, a notification will be sent to Professional Development and Learning and a notation of successful completion will be added to your official employee learning record.  Absent unusual circumstances, you will receive an electronic certificate of completion within five business days. Please keep a copy for your records in case there are any discrepancies in your training record.

Please contact University of Idaho Professional Development and Learning at gsmu@uidaho.edu if you have problems, questions or concerns.

Troubleshooting Technical Issues with Online Training Modules

  1. Are you using Internet Explorer or Chrome?

At this time, the training modules are not compatible with Safari, Firefox or mobile browsers. While you can view the modules in these browsers, your completion will not be captured and you will not be marked as having taken the training.

  2. Are you using a computer with multiple users?

If you are using a computer that other employees have access to, please ensure the previous user has logged out of the Windows account. UI has implemented a single sign-on service that works with a multitude of websites employees use daily. For example, an employee can log into his or her Outlook Web Application (OWA) and then access a training module without having to log in again. While this is convenient, it can cause problems if one employee is logged into OWA and a second employee sits down to access a module. The second employee will not be prompted to log in, thereby completing the training under another employees credentials. Every employee must sign in with his or her own unique UI Network ID and password. When you sign into a browser to view a training, a cookie is cached to track your progress and capture your completion.

  3. Has your EPAF been processed?

Your EPAF must be processed before you can access the training modules as you will need to log in with your UI Network ID and password. You will not be marked as complete if your supervisor (or another employee) logs you in under their credentials.

  4. I’ve completed the module, but I haven’t received an email confirmation of my completion or a certificate. What do I do?

It may take up to four hours to receive your certificate of completion. If you do not receive a certificate after that time, it’s possible that some cached content in your browser may be interfering with your record of completion being received. Please try clearing the cache before re-taking the training.

Trouble-Shooting Technical Issues with Online Training Modules

At this time, the training modules are not compatible with Safari, Firefox or mobile browsers. While you can view the modules in these browsers, your completion will not be captured and you will not be marked as having taken the training. We recommend you clear your cache prior to beginning a module as this may cause the modules to “freeze” or display incorrectly.

How to clear your cache:

If you experience a module “freezing” and you are in a recommended browser (Internet Explorer or Chrome), there are two possible issues:

  1. If you have paused the module for an extended period of time, it may have timed out. Refresh your browser; you will either be asked to log in again or if you would like to resume the module where you left off (select “yes”). Please note we recommend completing each module in one session as leaving a module paused for an extended period of time or exiting the browser may cause playback issues. Depending on your browser settings, exiting the module may result in loss of data.
  2. If after refreshing the browser the module continues to “freeze” up, you will need to clean out your browser cache and re-access the module.

How to clear your cache:

If you are using a computer that other employees have access to, please ensure the previous user has logged out of the Windows account. UI has implemented a single sign-on service that works with a multitude of websites employees use daily.
