Sick and Annual Leave

Sick Leave

Employees who work at least half-time whose job is expected to last five months or longer accrue sick leave at the rate of .0462 an hour for each hour worked. This is equivalent to 3.7 hours biweekly for full-time service. Sick leave accumulation for half-time but less than full-time service is accrued proportionately. Further information concerning sick leave, including the circumstances that warrant the taking of sick leave, appears in the Faculty-Staff Handbook Section 3710 C.

Annual Leave

Annual Leave (paid vacation leave) is accrued by benefit-eligible employees, depending on their employment classification. Annual leave accumulation for half-time but less than full-time service is accrued proportionately. The university’s policy is found in the Faculty-Staff Handbook Employees who work at least half-time whose job is expected to last five months Section 3710 B.

Grant-Funded Positions

If you hold a grant-funded position, be sure you read the appropriate sections of the Faculty-Staff Handbook and the APM for more detailed information regarding leave policies. All employees are accountable to university and Idaho state policy/statutes.

Academic Year Faculty

Faculty with an academic year appointment do not accrue Annual leave, as they are expected to take leave during breaks in the academic cycle.

Fiscal Year Faculty/Non-Faculty Exempt Employees

Employees in these groups who are on full-time, fiscal year appointments accrue annual leave at the rate of approximately 7.4 hours biweekly (24 days per year), and may accumulate to a maximum of 30 days.

Classified Employees

Classified employees who work at least half-time whose job is expected to last five months or longer earn Annual leave based on hours works and years of service. Accumulated hours increase as the years and hours of service increase.
