Architectural Design Competition Sees Highest Participation; Three Winners Named

Mariah Soriano, Kevin Brzezicki and Claire Trout earned top honors for designs they submitted to the 50th Edition of the Idaho Concrete Masonry Association-sponsored Architectural Design Competition last month. Students were tasked with conceptualizing the design of a new Airport Terminal for the Pullman-Moscow Regional Airport. The competition required the use of concrete masonry in the building. Two CLASS Students Receive Fulbright Awards for 2020-21

Two students from the University of Idaho’s College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences have been awarded Fulbright U.S. Student Program awards for the 2020-21 academic year. Michael Bishop, a Master of Fine Arts candidate in creative writing from Waianae, Hawaii, received a Fulbright Open Study/Research Award to New Zealand. Read more

Cieslik-Miskimen Honored for Paper on 20th Century Small-Town Papers

Caitlin Cieslik-Miskimen, an assistant professor of journalism and mass media in the College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences, was recognized for her scholarship by the International Communication Association (ICA), an international organization advancing the scholarly study of human communication. Her paper, “Navigating the Urban-Rural Divide: The Small-City Newspaper in the American Historical Narrative,” was named a top paper in the communication history division. Read more

INBRE Faculty Donate Medical Supplies to Gritman in COVID-19 Support

Idaho INBRE (IDeA Network of Biomedical Research) administrators donated about 33 boxes of personal protective equipment from a previous National Institutes of Health (NIH) research project to Gritman Medical Center as the hospital prepares for COVID-19. Retired laboratory technician Claudia Deobald alerted INBRE Associate Director Scott Minnich that Gritman needed the equipment. Read more

Model EU Student Awarded ‘Outstanding Delegate’

Emma Williams, a junior majoring in history, won Outstanding Delegate honors for her strong performance at the West Coast Model EU Conference March 6-7 in Seattle, Washington. Williams was part of a team of six College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences students representing the University of Idaho at the event. Read more

Idaho Clean Snowmobile Team Placed Fourth in National SAE Challenge

The University of Idaho College of Engineering's Idaho Clean Snowmobile Team earned fourth place overall in the gasoline spark-ignited class at the 2020 Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Clean Snowmobile Challenge held March 9-14. The U of I team competed against 23 teams across the U.S. and Canada in a weeklong challenge to produce innovative solutions to make cleaner, quieter and more efficient snowmobiles that are practical for manufacturers and enthusiasts alike.
