December 2014

Ben Baker, ITS Application Administrator | ITS
The ITS Enterprise Application Administration team manages some applications which do not have optimized notification systems in place. For example, some systems only send notices upon successful completion of system tasks, but no message from a failed event. The consequence is that system administration requires more manual labor to identify system errors, which could lead to errors. After looking for an “off-the-shelf” solution and finding none, Ben Baker took time out of his schedule to write a script designed to protect Application Administrators from losing track of system notifications like these. His work makes our customers, and fellow UIDAHO team members able to work in a more technically stable application environment, which means everyone can feel confident in getting the work done. His skill and willingness to help are appreciated more than he knows. —Jenine Cordon, ITS Application Administrator

Melissa Goodwin, Associate Director of Admissions & Karee Head, International Admissions Specialist | Admissions
Karee and Melissa have been really amazing with all of the extra work required by the 100+ Brazilian students moving from our American Language and Culture Program (ALCP) to academic classes in the Spring. They worked really hard to process applications in just a couple of days so that the students and their sponsor would have an answer as soon as possible. Without the extra work and overall amazing customer service that Melissa and Karee demonstrated, UI would not be such a popular place for these Brazilian students. Thank you!!! —Mary Ellen Brewick, Director of International Marketing and Recruitment, International Programs Office

Laila Cornwall & Ashley Ding, International Student Advisors | International Programs Office
Laila and Ashley have worked INCREDIBLY hard to help over 100 Brazilian students complete the American Language and Culture Program (ALCP) and transfer to academic courses at UI. There is a crazy amount of paperwork involved with these students because they are sponsored by the Brazilian government and monitored by the Institute of International Education in the USA. Laila and Ashley have put in a lot of extra hours and worked really hard to make sure that the students have their questions answered and feel like an important part of the Vandal Family. Thank you Ashley and Laila! —Mary Ellen Brewick, International Programs Office

Bob Basham, Associate Engineer | College of Engineering, UI Boise
Kudos to Bob Basham, Associate Engineer extraordinaire, for once again coming to the rescue! Bob is always so gracious to assist with odd "fix-it" requests. Most recently he was able to make repairs to the top of the University of Idaho Festival of Trees entry that was purchased and then donated to the University of Idaho Boise for everyone at the Water Center Building to enjoy this holiday season. The problem was, the tree was damaged in transport and when it arrived back at the Center, the top was horribly askew. Bob removed the top, worked his magic and "re-planted" it securely. It looks as beautiful as it did while on display at the festival. Thanks Bob! —Sandy Schultz, Administrative Assistant, Boise Center for Higher Education

Dan Stephens, University Controller | Controller's Office
I would like to publicly thank Dan Stephens for being the best boss I could ever hope to work for. My family received devastating news back in March that one of my twin teenage sons has leukemia, and we had to immediately "relocate" to Spokane to be near the hospital for many months of chemotherapy treatments. In his capacity as University Controller, Dan has many plates spinning at all times, but even with his heavy workload, his concern for my entire family was immediately apparent. From the beginning and throughout the past 8 months, he has bent over backwards to help me continue to work a very flexible schedule from remote locations while caring for my son. He has made it clear from the start that my son's health and treatment come first and the work will get done when time permits... the whole treatment process is overwhelming at times, so this flexibility allowed me to focus my energy on my son instead of constantly worrying about getting too far behind or meeting too many deadlines. As a result, I'm sure I'm getting much more work done than I would have without this flexibility...I probably would have had to quit my old job if this had happened while I was there. Dan has also taken the time to visit us in Spokane and calls to check on us regularly. He has even helped provide some welcome distraction in the form of a game system and games for my sons. Thank you Dan - I know we kid around a lot, but I am not kidding when I say you truly are the best boss I've ever had and I am grateful to be working with you here at UI. —Brenda Marsh, Accounting Manager - Capital Assets and Investments, Asset Accounting

Kudos to Ryan Haworth, UI-IF Instructional Designer and resident creative genius for all his hard work during the 60th Anniversary of University of Idaho in Idaho Falls. Ryan Haworth, Instructional Designer | UI Idaho Falls
In addition to this year being the 125th anniversary of the University of Idaho, it is also the 60th anniversary of the university's presence in Idaho Falls. Last week we held an event for the 60th celebration. I know Ryan wasn't the only person that made the event such a success, but his work was visible everywhere you looked. In the weeks leading up to the night, he was involved with others in the planning of the event. He scanned countless pictures for the slideshow. He produced posters of and for the leaders of the center since 1976. He produces a timeline with the major happenings from the center from the last 60 years. He was directly involved in the video and audio production and recording of the event. He even found time to program "Here We Have Idaho" into a 1985 Tandy 102 Personal Computer. Ryan, great job!!! —David B Anderson, IT Manager, Idaho Falls

Shawn O'Neal, General Manager/Adviser | Argonaut
As chair of Safety Week, I speak for many Vandals when I say how much we appreciate the comprehensive, professional and inspired coverage the Argonaut staff produced for Safety Week Sept. 15 - 20. The depth and breadth of reporting meets the highest standards of journalism, in my opinion. From reporters and editors to photographers — the Argonaut was everywhere, even providing post-event, thoughtful writing to help put events in context. It would have been easy to do much less and consider the job of covering Safety Week done, but the Argonaut leadership and staff reached for excellence instead, and that showed in every issue. Some journalists say they care about going deeper, but the Argonaut staff really accomplished that with Safety Week, also providing advertising support. I've heard Argonaut staff say their team of journalists is committed to building a safer campus while providing an objective platform for Vandal voices and vital issues. Their work on Safety Week certainly proved it. —Virginia Solan, Violence Prevention Programs Coordinator, Dean of Students Office

Matt Couch, Customer Service Rep 2 | Parking and Transportation Services
I just wanted to let you know that Mathew Couch from Parking Services is a great asset to the University staff. My daughter had hip surgery on October 3 and needed a temporary handicap permit so that she can park closer to her classes, getting from her dorm across campus on crutches is just not feasible. Mathew assisted me to find the form, answered my questions because I did not have the information to complete it and held it for Brianna to sign. He then let me know when she picked it up this afternoon. As a parent it is great to know that there are members of your staff that are willing to go the extra mile to help us out, especially when you have to leave your child on campus after a major surgery. I have expressed my thanks to Mr. Couch but thought someone else should know. —Stacey L. Gray CPA MBA, Assistant Controller, Alliance Machine Systems Intl, LLC, Spokane

Alice Allen & Julie Jacobson, Kristy Mayer (Moscow) | University of Idaho - Idaho Falls
The Idaho Falls Center recently celebrated the 125th activities at the Center for Advanced Energy Studies (CAES) and the evening was wonderful. It would not have been as successful without the help of each of these individuals. There were many hours spent in planning, advertising and setting up as well as cleanup by these wonderful ladies. Mike Swanson, Landscape Maintenance Technician & Tina Nagle, Landscape Maintenance Assistant | Facilities
Mike Swanson and Tina Nagle cut the weeds around the parking lot of Human Resources on a very hot day (90 degree). The cars can be parked without pushing against the weeds. I really appreciate their hard work (especially in the hot weather). They make the University campus look nice and pleasant. We can’t say “THANK YOU” enough; it is nice to see the dedication to the section of campus that is not as well traveled. They are the gem of Facilities at the University of Idaho! —Myung Chun, HR Specialist, Human Resources

Dan developed a new system to make hiring international students streamlined and easy. This system cut the average wait time for hiring from 2+ weeks to 1.5 days. It encourages UI employers to hire international students as the process is much easier to follow and requires a lot less red tape and time. Thanks for being proactive and spending the time necessary to make hiring ALL student staff easier. —Brian Mahoney, Associate Director, Facilities & Operations, Campus Recreation

Gina Tinley, Department Coordinator | Biological Sciences
Gina took the lead when PeopleAdmin went live by; asking appropriate questions, making notes of tiny but important items that were not included in the PeopleAdmin manual which she addressed, with the appropriate people. There were numerous glitches and she gave great suggestions to improve/correct/or fix the glitches. During all of this she kept me up-to-date and informed me of everything and she took the time to attend a PeopleAdmin meeting with me so that she could ask questions and make notes as far as processes within PeopleAdmin. Thank you Gina! —Lorrie Williams, Aministrative Assistant, Sr.

Patrick Nutter and Phillip Sertich, Building Superintendent and Maintenance | UI CDA
“Quality means doing it right when no one is looking.” Henry Ford said this many years ago, but Patrick and Philip, I believe, live by it here at Harbor Center. I have worked with Patrick for 10 years now and I find him indisputably one who takes great pride in keeping this facility ship shape. In fact, I have never met one who is more proud of a facility than he is. Ownership of your craft is not something one easily finds these days in employees; Patrick and Philip definitely give their best… even when others are not looking. They were especially helpful in assisting us with locating some tables and chair setup last week for our new student orientation activities. They are always on the spot with service requests from burnt out light bulbs, to carpet stains, to making sure restrooms are always squeaky clean. I believe we spend too much time as mangers addressing what people are doing wrong; not enough time on what people are doing right. So here’s a note of support for two gentlemen who are, at least by LCSC measures, doing excellent work for Harbor Center. —Rocky Owens, Director, LCSC Coeur d'Alene

Angie Sowers, Julie Anderson, Rob Baxter | UI CDA

She makes a complicated system un-complicated, and represents her office with true professionalism and customer service. I can't imagine what HR would be like without her. —Eric Anderson, Career Advising and Professional Development

Gene Gussenhoven, Director of Utilities and Engineering & Scott Smith, Steam Plant Manager | Facilities
Thank you again for the wonderful introduction to the world of biomass for our Integrated Design Studio. The students loved the Steam Plant tour last week and truly enjoyed meeting you both. Elmer Johnson, Water Systems Manager | Facilities
I would like to extend kudos to Elmer Johnson for his dedication to keeping our reclaimed water system going. On Wednesday, September 10, we experienced a break in a 6” reclaimed water distribution line that affects much of the south side of campus. Elmer Johnson, our Water Systems Specialist at UI Facilities, was at a training conference in CDA. Upon learning of the incident, after his training was finished for the day, Elmer drove down to Moscow and made sure the break had been fixed properly, and then charged the system back up that night. He came in early the next morning to check on the system before driving back up to CDA to finish his two-day training. On behalf of the Landscape Shop, Arboretum, and UI Golf Course, I would like to thank Elmer for his dedication and thoughtfulness to all who are affected by these utilities, and his willingness to keep them going. —Craig Carson, Campus Landscape Supervisor, Facilities

Elmer Johnson, Water Systems Manager | Facilities
Kudo’s for Elmer Johnson. While taking classes in Coeur D’Alene to keep up his required water certifications, he found out that a contractor had hit the reclaimed water main line on campus and taken down all campus reclaimed water irrigation. That is 90% of campus. He came back from CDA to campus after his training session ended, and worked till 10 PM that night patching the mainline together, so that irrigation could run that night across campus and keep our lawns green during our cool/dry fall weather. —Charles M. Zillinger, Director, Facilities

I value their willingness to work as a team, take on additional work, and learn new skills outside their job duties. We couldn’t have done it without you. You guys are the best! —Nancy Morrison, Finance Coordinator, College of Education

David Nuhn, Pro Shop Assistant | Golf Course
Below is a letter we received regarding David who is a Pro Shop employee and attends Pro-AM tournaments for the UI. We are very happy that David is a shining example for the university and especially the golf course. Thank you David for all your hard work. "I played in the Rosauers Pro Am today with David and wanted to let you know what a class act he is. My two sons were watching at the end and I had my 9 year old on the green with me and my son picked up my ball on accident and felt horrible about it. David handled it great, had him hit some putts with his putter (this was the last hole of the round) and then gave each of my son's a golf ball. My wife had him sign them for the boys. That will leave a great impression on them, I'm sure. He represents your course VERY well and was a pleasure to play with (and is a great player)! -Shawn Van Gordon, President A&B Mortgage, Inc." —Kandy Nelson, Operations Coordinator, UI Golf Course

For example, I needed an apartment quickly, and in addition to sustaining her work load, she tirelessly contacted those whom she knew in the area who might have an apartment. Ultimately, she directed me toward a very comfortable and affordable place. I called Brittni on the chance that she had an alternate telephone number for this person. She was super friendly and went the extra mile to help me with my situation... even by running down the hall to see if she could find my person! Brittni is a great example of how to help your co-workers. Kudos to her! —Cynthia Adams, Purchasing Assistant, Purchasing

Victor J. House, IT Tech | NIATT and Civil Engineering
Big Kudos to Victor House, he has shown to me and to the civil engineering department excellence in three aspects of his job: Knowledge: Victor seems to be on top of things and keenly search for solution for any computer issue that I have encountered. I have a long list, but here is couple of examples: We have licensed software that resides off campus at an agency in Boise. We hook to it via VPN. He worked diligently with the agency to facilitate my access. This task took significant amount of time and communication and he got it working. Another example, I use software that runs under the “old” Windows or even DOS operating systems. He was able to install virtual machines and get the software runs smoothly for students. Timely response: Victor is very responsive and he is always on time or a head of time. In many instances, if I write him an e-mail inquiring or requesting something, and before I even try call to find out, he is done with it. He always impresses me of how quick his response is. It makes me make sure to say “no rush” on a job that I feel no need to act on it right away. Personal manners: Victor is really a nice person to work with. He has high respect to his co-workers and he always has a polite way to ask for time extension, if needed, or when he is not able to do something. —Fouad M. Bayomy, Professor, Civil Engineering

The whole team is awesome. They have a can do attitude!!! —David McIlroy, Prof. and Chair of Physics

Amber Wilson, HR Business Partner | Human Resources
Amber recently came up to the English department to train me on the new ATS system. The last system literally left me in tears of frustration. The fact that Amber came up here to train me personally and sweetly handled all my questions with patience was in a word amazing. I think we get so used to doing our jobs that we lose our patience when we have to teach someone something that comes easily to us. The fact that she didn't lose her patience and she gave me as much time as I needed was refreshing! She is an asset to the University. —Jennifer Baillargeon-Hauck, AAII, English

February 2014

Bryce Barbee, Senior Maintenance Craftsperson | Facilities
I just wanted to say I had Bryce here today and, as always, he did an amazing job. I am so consistently impressed with the quality of the folks that work for facilities. I don’t think there is a department/program on campus that even compares. I have worked on this campus for eight years (I was a student here before that) and I say that with all honesty. Thanks for all that you do :D —Mandi Coulter, Idaho NSF EPSCoR

Melinda Deyasi, Thesis and Dissertation Advisor | College of Graduate Studies
Melinda "stepped outside the box." As a Thesis and Dissertation Advisor, her main duties come at the end of a student’s career. However, this didn't stop her from stepping in and helping out our office (Graduate Admissions) during the February 1st deadline rush. Melinda rolled up her sleeves and jumped right in opening tubs of mail, matching documents to files, and keeping our filing system organized. Thanks to Melinda's willingness and hard work (and overall great attitude), the Graduate Admissions Office was able to focus on completed application files and credential evaluation. —Pam Beutler, Roxane Fredrickson, and Tammy Renfrow, Graduate Admissions Office

Chuck Schoeffler, Energy Operations Specialist | Facilities
Dr. Schoeffler, though substantially over qualified for his position, provides the staff and students of U.I. with a full day of competent service professionally applied day after day. Others can call Chuck at home at any time for assistance on the phone and when necessary will gladly come in to assist. Though highly educated and possessing a great natural intellect Chuck is plain spoken and unpretentious. A native of Moscow and U.I. alum, Chuck appears to have a genuine affection for the institution. Known by many across the campus, Chuck is held in very high regard personally and professionally. —David Hamilton, Energy Operations Specialist, Facilities

Angie Sowers, Enrollment Services Coordinator | UI Coeur d'Alene, Staff Affairs CDA Representative
Angie served as the primary coordinator for the College Info Night. This is a collaborative event between UI, BSU, LC, ISU and NIC each year. Approximately 150 prospective students and their parents had a chance to meet with representatives from Idaho schools as well as attend workshops on Financial Aid, Career Exploration, College Success and Dual Credit. An event of such magnitude is not easily coordinated, nor does it always "go off without a hitch." Angie deserves a big thank you for dedication to making this year's College Info Night such a success! Great job Angie!!! As well as a big thank you, for her tireless dedication to the CDA Center! —Charles Buck, AVP/CEO University of Idaho CDA

Great job on getting ahead of the sidewalk snow and keeping campus mobile for the rest of us! —Cindy Bogar, Dept. Manager, Chemistry

Video Communications Services | ITS
As a center employee, I rely heavily on the use of videoconference for both classes and meetings. The VCS folks go above and beyond to accommodate us and track down and fix problems when they arise. This morning there was a mix-up when a room didn't get scheduled on my end and we had an overlapping event. This was purely my fault, but their office did everything they could to find a work around for the problem. In the end, everything was solved and the meeting got connected. A big thanks especially to Daryl Power and Edward Gosselin! —Angie Sowers, Enrollment Services, Coeur d'Alene

Dusty Fleener, Administrative Coordinator | Confucius Institute
After only three weeks in his new job as Administrative Coordinator for the Confucius Institute, Dusty Fleener was thrown into having to coordinate the Chinese New Year celebration—the biggest Chinese holiday of the year—from start to finish. In addition to his normal duties and Banner training. In only two weeks! He handled the scheduling and publicity, ordered supplies, arranged ticket sales, dealt with all the UI paperwork necessary for such a huge event, etc... he even put together gift bags for the children's gifts and decorated the SUB Ballroom. All with good humor (no matter how many surprises he encountered). Dusty, we're happy to have you on the third floor. —Hil Priest, AA2, Modern Languages and Cultures

Ken Schmidt, Media Equipment Specialist | ITS
I have had a lot of problems with firewalls and other issues in presenting a key component of my Green Dot program, a skills training on how to prevent people from being hurt or harassed. I visited Ken Schmidt's office the day before my training this past Saturday, and he accompanied me to the space for the training and was meticulous and extremely responsive and helpful in getting us tested, set up and ready to go in the morning. There were changes that needed to be made so everything would go smoothly, and he attended to each detail. Above and beyond—he came in early Saturday morning on his own time to check in and make sure everything was ready to roll. I am so impressed with this level of customer service and genuine caring. Ken Schmidt clearly is a very valuable member of our Vandal Team. The day was a big success, with almost 50 students making a personal commitment to intervene if someone is in trouble. That would not have happened if Ken had not been the grand problem-solver and professional he is. —Virginia Solan, Coordinator, Violence Prevention Programs, Dean of Students Office

Sharon Jemes, IT Programmer Analyst | Registrar's Office
I want to say what a gem UI has with Sharon Jemes. She is calm, focused and so meticulous. I don’t know how many software issues she has taken the lead on to fix. And from my perspective, these software issues have campus wide effects and invariably come at the worst times during a semester. She recognizes issues, collaborates with the providers, and with staff who depend on this software to get their jobs done. Then, Sharon follows up with everyone who is affected. I truly appreciate her! —Cheri Cole, Management Assistant, College of Graduate Studies

Monte Cooley, DFA Programmer Analyst | Auxiliary Services
The UI Golf Course advertises in the magazine "Golf in the Northwest" each year. The deadline for creating the ad was this week. Since the golf course is closed during the winter I don't work much. All of a sudden I realized we were going to miss getting our advertisement submitted. I called Monte who is part of the Auxiliary Services ITS support and asked him if he could help. In one day he created us a beautiful advertisement. Much better than if I had thrown one together. Now the UI golf course will shine in the magazine. Thanks again, Monte. —Kandy Nelson, Operations Coordinator, UI Golf Course

Lately I have had some difficulties generating enrollment data through BANNER (all my problem!), and Chris has been unfailingly helpful to walk me through the process. But more than that, Chris made sure that grades were posted in a timely fashion during the winter break—taking time from her own holiday season to do so. Myung Chun, Employment Services Tech & Dan Noble, Financial Tech Senior | Human Resources
On behalf of CNR Fiscal Services, I would like to recognize the outstanding work done by both Myung Chun and Dan Noble in processing our epafs. We've had quite a bit of turnover of late and, not surprisingly, various issues with epaf accuracy. Both Myung and Dan have provided tremendous patience and training while we get back up to speed within our area. They are truly unsung heroes of the university's staff. Without their expertise and eye for all the details, university employees would not have accurate paychecks. They quietly go about getting this essential work done and too often are not given recognition. Thank you Myung and Dan for everything you do for this university; you are very much appreciated! —Lynne Kittner, Budget Specialist, CNR Fiscal

Janet Peterson, Financial Unit Supervisor and Benny Garcia | Auxiliary Business Services

Accounts Payable Team
Linda Keeney, Lacey Devlin, Alice Reyes, Erica Frazier, Rosita Groves, Brandi Chastain, Barbara Fountain, and Jeanne Otto. When people think of navigating finances within an organization as large as a university, most people are at best skeptical. Linda and the Accounts Payable staff have been amazing to work with the entire time I've been at this University. We often have very specific and sometimes complex requests, yet we are welcomed with a friendly demeanor and a bunch of "can do" attitudes. We just had a nice gentleman call with only nice things to say about Marg. Marg went out of her way to help him and make sure he found his way over to his friend’s house, also in Family Housing. Members of University Support Services and Facilities
I would like to take a moment to recognize members of University Support Services (USS) and Facilities for their tireless efforts to keep the Kibbie Dome up and running during the unprecedented cold snap we just experienced. Last week a malfunctioning valve caused a shutdown of the main heater for the Dome. The result was a large, extremely cold stadium. Joe Hunt (USS), Bruce Pancheri, Tom Clemens, Kevin Dial and Chuck Schoeffler (Facilities) worked diligently to get that problem resolved. This was followed up with a freezing of pipes in a secondary heater unit Saturday night. Sunday morning, bright and early, Joe Hunt and Rob Anderson (USS) Mike Holthaus and BJ Schenck (Facilities) were working, yet again, to undo the damage wrought by the cold temperatures to ensure that the Kibbie Dome would be up and running by Monday morning. Brandi Terwilliger, Benefits Administration Manager, Payroll and Benefits
Brandi is awesome! She was incredibly helpful in a dire situation with an employee who was fighting a battle with cancer. Communication was essential for this employee at a very difficult time and Brandi was fantastic, helpful, understanding and giving. I was with this employee just a couple days before she passed away and Brandi settled yet one more question for her when we were able to get her on the speaker phone. I used my iPhone to reach Brandi on Microsoft Lync. I said, “I need you and I need you now!” Without any hesitation, she told me to call immediately (she didn't even ask why)...all the while being gentle, helpful and acting just exactly how I needed her to in that moment. Tracey Abdallah, Personnel Services Coordinator, Facilities
Just wanted to let you know that Tracey went above and beyond the call of duty this past week. I just hired a temporary worker to replace the one who was terminated. This is a critical position—the person will be watering trees and shrubs all over campus with the water wagon—and these plants are getting quite thirsty at this point in the summer. Thus, I was in a hurry to find a replacement, get them processed, and out on the wagon. Of course I didn’t really explain to Tracey the whys behind the urgency to hire, just that I wanted someone as quickly as possible. I’m sure she hears this all the time: “I want to hire someone now, so drop whatever else you’re doing and take care of my needs first!.” Well, Tracey acted professionally and extremely efficiently and had a genuine helpful demeanor through the entire process. She should teach classes on customer service. I have someone starting today and couldn’t be more pleased about the outcome and time it took to process everything so quickly. Best experience I’ve had with a hiring in many, many years. I thanked Tracey for a job-well done, and thought I’d let you know as well. —David Rauk, Horticulturist, Landscape and Exterior Services, Facilities

Aaron Mayhugh & Crew, University Support Services
I wanted to thank the Aaron Mayhugh and his University Support Services Crew for all of their great work during the Jazz Festival this year. My two daughters grabbed our tickets quickly and attended two evenings. Let’s just say they are not easy to impress. They indicated that the Jazz Festival was excellent. I realize my family and I are just a lucky recipient/spectator of all of Aaron M’s and the group’s hard work and nothing else. However, as a spectator only, I still want to thank him for all he does. I am guessing Events can be sometimes like Construction Projects. No one may notice sometimes until something small goes wrong. I never notice anything going wrong on an event. Clint worked to get all of the documents I sent to him in the correct formats. Accepted the elections request late and then a moved date with no complaints or questions. Amber Wilson, Employment Service Specialist, Human Resources
Before becoming the Employment Services Specialist, Amber was the approver of EPAF's for Human Resources, along with Myung. Amber has always went above and beyond in her customer service skills. I complete about 160 EPAF's every year, and the process can be very cumbersome, but Amber made this process very easy and she always made me feel like a "rock star" even when I probably didn't deserve it. The tiniest mistake will not allow an EPAF to go through, but Amber always spent time helping me however she could to get the EPAF through. Human Resources is very fortunate to have Amber in their employ. I also input all of the jobs for our Department into ATS, so I am lucky enough to continue to work with Amber, but on the job side and not the EPAF side. Her constant, cheery, can-do attitude always lifts me up. More than all of this, she is a true professional. She really knows what she is doing, and knows our systems so well. Shana Codr, Administrative Assistant II, 4-H Youth Development
Administrative Assistant Shana Codr needs to be recognized for her accounting innovations. The loss of a full-time financial technician in our department left a void that has remained unfilled. Last year we did not collect all 4-H conference registration and workshop fees due simply because we did not have staff to perform this task. Shana said she was willing to work on the problem, and designed a system that eliminated most data entry, streamlined accounting practices, and reduced workloads for our office, administrative staff, accounts payable, and county Extension offices. There are no words to express how grateful we are for her hard work and cheerful demeanor during several stressful months in our office. —Claudine Zender, Extension Associate, 4-H Youth Development

Campus Mail Services Team
Kudos to the mail team! This was quite a job—over 24,000 pieces, 2 pieces per envelope that had to be hand stuffed… and all the large mailing envelopes came with the flap partially glued shut on them, so they had to be unstuck by hand, then resealed once they had the information in it. All on about a 2 week deadline. —Charles Zillinger, Director - Landscape & Exterior Services, Facilities

On behalf of myself that was the best Staff Appreciation lunch I ever had. Bravo Zulu folks. —Joe Groves, Inventory Specialist, Asset Accounting
