A. EMPLOYEES' POLITICAL RIGHTS. A person's political rights of citizenship are not impaired by his or her status as a UI employee. Nevertheless, employees may not exercise those political rights in UI's name, or through the use of UI facilities, stationery, forms, supplies, or services of any kind whatsoever, or in any way that might involve UI in partisan political activity or controversy. Under its charter, the state constitution, and Idaho laws, UI is strictly nonpartisan and nonsectarian and must remain so.

B. RIGHT TO RUN FOR PUBLIC OFFICE. Neither the regents nor any UI officer is to prevent, threaten, harass, or discriminate against any UI employee who chooses to run for public office.

C. CAMPAIGNING. Employees may campaign freely, consistent with regents' policies that prohibit any campaign activities during duty hours. Requests for leave of absence to campaign for public office are considered on an individual basis.

D. LEAVES OF ABSENCE TO MEMBERS OF THE STATE LEGISLATURE. UI employees who are elected to the state legislature will be granted a leave of absence without pay from the day before the opening of a regular or special session of the legislature to the day after the close of the session.

E. LEAVE FOR PART-TIME LOCAL OFFICE-HOLDERS. Leave and pay status of UI employees who are elected to part-time municipal or county offices will be determined by the regents on an individual basis.
