Football Player Has Eye on NFL, Helping Others

CLASS graduate and Idaho Vandals offensive lineman earns degrees in sociology, psychology.

University of Idaho’s Dallas Sandberg believes that hard work and a dedication to his craft will help him achieve his dreams.

During his time at U of I, the offensive lineman for the Idaho Vandals football team earned two bachelor’s degrees from the College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences in sociology, with an emphasis in criminology, and psychology. He believes these will benefit his quest to help others realize and achieve their goals.

“He’s an outstanding leader,” said U of I’s assistant head football coach Kris Cinkovich. “He’s a respected worker. He’s like a coach on the field. That to me, is his No. 1 strength.”

Sandberg wrapped up his college athletic career in November, when the Vandals won their last game of the season 38-31. After graduating on Dec. 12, the Prescott Valley, Arizona, native hopes to pursue a professional career in football.

“After I finish up college at Idaho, I plan on pursuing my dream of playing in the NFL,” Sandberg said. “Eventually I want to coach high school or college football. I also want to work with juveniles and help create goal-based programs for young adults to get them on the successful track in life.”

Sandberg says his time at U of I has taught him to focus on the positives in life, learn from his mistakes and study in order to prepare for any challenge ahead.

“I love being able to study for football the way I would study for an exam,” he said. “I spend hours studying an opposing defense — and through that preparation, I learn something new every day. I just love learning.”

Sandberg said the support of those closest to him has helped him develop his approach to tasks.

“My biggest role model and hero is my older brother, Corey. He has taught me how to fight through adversity and has shown me how to be the best I can be,” Sandberg said. “He is my biggest supporter on and off the field and he is the reason why I have achieved so much in my career.”

Sandberg has a passion for knowledge. He believes the principles he learned at U of I will help him in his pursuit of an NFL career and life beyond.

“I am extremely grateful for all the support we get as student-athletes and being able to come out of college virtually debt free with two degrees is an amazing feeling. I have been able to do what I love while setting myself up to succeed the rest of my life.”
