Living Brave and Bold

Anslee Lechner
Meridian
International Studies, College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences

Most University of Idaho alumni know the words to the Vandal fight song. Few identify as closely with its lyrics as Anslee Lechner.

After being diagnosed with two types of thyroid cancer in high school, Lechner knows the importance of living each day to its fullest – and it’s led her to graduate in three and a half years while also being active in campus life.

“I have learned to appreciate everything in life – friends, family and school,” she said. “Being brave and bold – I try to live that way every day, whether in a little or big way.”

Lechner graduates in fall 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts in international studies and minors in French and political science.

She’s also been a member of the Model U.N., active in residence hall activities and the Residence Hall Association, drawn political cartoons for The Argonaut and volunteered on the Homecoming Committee and Student Alumni Relations Board.

In fact, her active campus involvement helped her in the classroom.

“In everything that I’ve done, I’ve had to push myself to be better,” Lechner said. “If I wasn’t involved with all of these things, I wouldn’t be who I am today.”

She hopes to work in Boise after graduation during the 2019 legislative session then as a teaching assistant in France. She eventually wants to work for the United Nations.
