Project Updates

“In the era of exponential growth of technology resulting in different disasters, if one is alert today, he is healthy and alive. I am seeking to mainly focus on road safety for people all around the world living in various conditions. And most importantly, I wish to ensure a better and safer space for blind people.

Death or injury due to road accidents and machinery failure is alarmingly high in developing countries due to lack of awareness, carelessness and technology. I have personally experienced a death in my family that could have been avoided. This project has a special place in my heart.”

Project Details

I have been working at the National Institute for Advanced Transportation Technology for nearly a year, which proves my expertise. My work involved determining the communication range between two autonomous vehicles and their communication with traffic controllers through different protocols to avoid fatal crashes and ensure safety.

I want to conduct research by doing an anonymous survey with different groups of people in different parts of the world, in developed or developing countries, or places with high and low traffic. I plan to prepare a list of questions as to how people cross the road with or without crosswalks, in the presence or absence of traffic lights, etc.

My goal is to do research on different companies working to develop road infrastructure and to research their budgeting. I will give input to the company to inform city design and fulfill pedestrian requests for new technology and to ensure resident safety.

I am an international student form Nepal, and I want to explore diversity in different parts of the world. I do think I have done a good job of coming out of my shell and have adapted well with people and the different cultures. I can take back the different things I learn from being in the U.S. and work to ensure safety in an undeveloped region.

I am the currently an Engineering Ambassador for the College of Engineering, the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, and the International Programs Office. I exhibit social consciousness by assisting different students, helping to promote diversity and working with international students as a guide and a mentor. This leadership skill will help me.

Grand Challenge Focus Area

Restore and Improve Urban Infrastructure

In 2005, the American Society of Civil Engineers issued a report card, grading various categories of U.S. infrastructure. The average grade was D (Updated to D+ in 2013).
