Materials engineering spans 30,000 years of human history, from the discovery of glass and modern concrete to innovation in optical microscopy and semiconductor devices, laying the groundwork for modern computers and microchips.

Materials engineers study the properties and fabrication processes of many different types of materials and apply this knowledge to improve manufacturing and create more advanced products.
