Integrated Sports Medicine Movement Analysis Laboratory
Greater than half of the U.S. population annually report musculoskeletal injury/issues as a primary health concern and most of these individuals receive treatment for musculoskeletal injury/issues.
The Integrated Sports Medicine Movement Analysis Laboratory (ISMMAL), directed by Jeff Seegmiller, Ed.D., is the applied research facility for the Department of Movement Sciences, WWAMI medical education, and the Athletic Training Programs. The research conducted focuses on identifying mechanisms of injuries, potential risk factors, preventative strategies and treatment for musculoskeletal injury. The work performed in this space is often collaborative research projects involving faculty members and students from athletic training, biomechanics, exercise, sport, and health sciences, neuroscience and WWAMI medical education programs.
Laboratory Details
The laboratory is in the Physical Education Building (PEB) next to the Exercise Physiology Laboratory. It is fully equipped to evaluate human movement/performance (specific functional task and sport analyses) using infrared optical motion analysis synched with force plates and electromyography systems.
This applied learning space features:
- Vicon Motion Capture system (total of eight cameras)
- Delsys Trigno Wireless EMG system (total of fourteen channels)
- AMTI AccuSway Portable
- AMTI Embedded Force Plates
- NeuroCom® SMART Balance Master
- GE Portable Diagnostic Ultrasound
- BIOPAC MP-150 system (total of two sets with eight channels)
- CSMi HUMAC NORM (Isokinetic dynamometer)
- Multiple workstations equipped with computers for use by research assistants (undergraduate/graduate) and faculty members
- Proprioception and postural stability equipment
- Non-surgical treatment/management of musculoskeletal injury/issues
- Orthopaedic rehabilitation
- Preventative strategies and extras which are beneficial to the community
