Secondary Education

The University of Idaho College of Education, Health and Human Sciences has been preparing graduates for rewarding careers teaching. The Bachelor of Science in secondary education offers graduates the training and credentials needed to teach students specific subjects in grades 6-12. The program works closely with other University of Idaho colleges to provide graduates a strong background in specific content areas, such as English, history, science or mathematics.

Secondary education majors learn how to teach specific content area subjects to students in grades 6-12. Students seeking a Bachelor of Science in secondary education also complete a one-semester internship in a classroom environment, where they hone their teaching skills under the supervision of experienced teachers. Secondary education majors at the University of Idaho also receive personal mentoring from College of Education, Health and Human Science’s faculty members.

Teacher certification, a requirement for teaching in a public school, varies from state to state. Upon completion of course work, and prior to the one-semester internship, secondary education majors take certification exams required by Idaho.
