Asian-American/Pacific Islander Heritage Month

In 1990, President George W. Bush designated May as Asian American/Pacific Islander Heritage Month. The month of May was chosen to commemorate the immigration of the first Japanese immigrants to the U.S. in 1843. Many colleges and universities celebrate this heritage month in April while students are still on campus.

Save the Date: April 2017

Regular events include:

  • India Night
Hosted by the Indian Students' Association, this is the largest Indian cultural extravaganza on campus, including authentic Indian food, Indian classical and folk dance, a fashion show and short presentations explaining the culture, heritage, tradition and diversity in India.
  • Chinese Movie Night
The UI Confucius Institute hosts this series year-round.
  • China on the Palouse
These informal discussions cover different topics of Chinese culture. Hosted by the UI Confucius Institute.
