Kick off your summer right! Join a team of your fellow Vandals as they volunteer with community organizations across the country. Summer Alternative Service Breaks are a great opportunity to make the most of the first couple weeks of your summer break before starting that summer job or internship.
In 2019, the Alternative Service Break program will be partnering with Community Collaborations International, an organization focused on providing natural disaster relief support around the world. The University of Idaho group will be teaming up with Community Collaborations International’s Puerto Rico team to serve communities drastically affected by hurricane damage.
Participants must attend all pre-trip meetings: Thursday May 2nd, Tuesday May 7th, and Sunday May 19th from 7-9 pm
The program goals for this trip include:
- Help families rebuild their homes and provide desperately needed building supplies and other necessities for families struggling without flood insurance and limited government support.
- Support Boy's and Girl's Clubs and HeadStart Programs with tutoring and school repair.
- Help restore the devastated environment and parks that are vital to the ecosystem and economy of Puerto Rico.
- Bring skilled labor to the recovery effort starting in summer 2018.
