Health Insurance Requirement

The University of Idaho requires all full-time, fee-paying, degree-seeking undergraduate students enrolled in 12 or more credits; graduate/Law students enrolled in nine or more credits; and all international students to submit proof of valid health insurance as a condition of enrollment. Students subject to the requirement must complete a Health Insurance Information Form online in VandalWeb or enroll in UI SHIP by midnight the first day of each semester.

The charge for health insurance is a separate line item on your bill. The charge will be credited to your student account when your personal health insurance information has been submitted. Credits on your student account for medical insurance are conditional pending verification of compliance with the health insurance requirement. Additional information regarding the health insurance requirement and processes can be found at www.uidaho.edu/studentinsurance.

The cost of Student Health Insurance for the 2016 - 2017 academic year is $906 per semester. $501 for summer 2017 (new students only).

Qualified Late Enrollee Provision: Students who lose employer-sponsored health insurance or Medicaid after the Open Enrollment deadline may enroll in SHIP within 30 days of the date of loss of their previous coverage. Documentation of the involuntary loss of coverage must be provided. The effective date of SHIP coverage will be the date following the day you lost coverage. The insurance premium charge will be pro-rated from the effective date through the end of the coverage term. Charges for medical insurance are placed on your student account. Please contact the Student Health Insurance office for additional information and rates.
