About Us

The Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) seeks to broaden the University of Idaho’s commitment to cultural enrichment and academic excellence by maintaining an environment that supports multiculturalism and promotes inclusion. OMA believes each member of the UI community makes a valuable contribution to the intellectual and social culture of the university.

Objectives

  • Promote cultural awareness throughout the University of Idaho community
  • Provide support for multicultural organizations
  • Maintain a campus-wide structure that supports academic success
  • Promote curriculum efforts that focus on mutual understanding and inclusion
  • Advocate for multicultural issues and initiatives

Things We Do

OMA hosts the following events and programs to help develop leadership skills:

  • Fall semester Multicultural Leadership Retreat
  • Get in touch with and learn directly from current college leaders through the Peer Advising on the College Experience (PACE) mentoring program.
  • Host workshops to help you develop as a student leader.

Gain experience from community involvement. OMA works closely with various on- and off-campus entities, including:

  • The Palouse Asian American Association
  • Latah County Human Rights Task Force
  • ASUI Center for Volunteerism and Social Action

OMA provides support through your own professional and student development.

  • We post information about internships, fellowships, and local and national jobs.
  • We post information about local and national scholarships.
  • We manage a variety of multicultural scholarships for new and continuing students.
  • Each year, we help to sponsor the Spring Career Expo on the Palouse.

OMA provides the entire campus with programs that celebrate multicultural communities. We work closely with student clubs and other partners to provide celebrations and initiate cultural exchanges and education through events such as:
