Other Programs

Vandals for Recovery, U of I’s Collegiate Recovery Community, supports and advocates for students in and seeking recovery from substance misuse as they pursue their academic goals. Support, events and resources are provided in collaboration by Vandal Health Education, the Counseling and Mental Health Center and the Latah Recovery Center.

This program provides a safe, recovery-supportive, nonjudgmental space for students in recovery to find a community of like-minded peers and engage in educational and sober social opportunities on and off campus as they maintain their recovery. Any student who identifies as being in or seeking recovery from substance misuse may join this community.

Screenings occur on campus throughout the year and provide opportunities for students to receive personalized feedback on their alcohol use, the associated risks, perceptions of social norms, and options for reducing problems and consequences. Referrals for further evaluation are provided for students engaging in high-risk drinking.

Screenings are also conducted to living group or classrooms in a group format. Request a screening »

Every two years the Counseling and Mental Health Center administers the National College Health Assessment, one of the most valid and reliable measures of student drinking patterns and other health related items. Data from this assessment helps guide the work done to reduce harmful outcomes related to student alcohol and other drug use.

Mandated Program

The following program is mandated to students who violate the Student Code of Conduct.

BASICS is delivered in an individual format and is designed to help students explore drinking or drug behaviors and identify consequences, related attitudes and the motivation to change behaviors and develop controlled-use strategies or make progress toward abstinence of substance use.
