Pre-Health Focus: Pre-Med
Major: Molecular Biology/Biotechnology and Spanish
Hometown: Boise, Idaho
Hobbies/Extracurricular Activities: I enjoy spending time outside with family and friends, whether it be hiking, boating, camping, or just exploring. I also love to cook, especially with fresh finds from the farmers market!
Initial Interest: In high school, I thoroughly enjoyed my science classes and took a lot of them! Additionally, I was running a small cupcake business and absolutely loved it! I considered studying business and opening up a cupcake shop, but realized I wasn't interested in the management side of things. The aspect of a cupcake business that I was truly passionate about was the ability to make a positive impact on the lives of others, playing a role in major life events. Considering this passion, and my love for science, medicine seemed like the right direction for me. Each experience that I have had exploring medicine has only solidified my intuition that medicine is where I want to end up.
Experience Highlights: A shadowing experience that I had with a neonatologist proved to be very influential in cultivating a certainty that I want to pursue pediatric medicine. There aren't words that can completely convey the feeling, but being there and envisioning myself in her position gave me such a strong vision of where I want to be career-wise, and incredible excitement for my possible future in medicine. All other experiences in medicine have provided conformation for me that the medical field is the place for me. Additionally, my experience doing lab work has been enjoyable and rewarding, although it is not something that I could see myself doing for a lifetime.
Advice for new Pre-Health Students:There are so many opportunities, especially in the first couple years of college. It's always a good idea to pursue your interests and explore and try new things. It's a great time to figure out who you are and what you love, so you might as well delve into any opportunity that piques your interest.
