Three Minute Masters
The Three Minute Masters (3MM) competition, developed by College of Graduate Studies at University of Idaho, is an expansion of the Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) that continues to celebrate our student research by including master's degree level students. This event cultivates students’ academic, presentation and research communication skills by providing a means to exercise their capacity to effectively explain their research in three minutes, in a presentation appropriate to a non-specialist audience.
The Three Minute Masters (3MM) competition is a test of the presentation skills of master's students. Knowledge in a field is a successful start, but applying and communicating it effectively to diverse audiences will grant additional merit to the research conducted by these students.
This competition is designed to develop skills that will give students an important career advantage once they complete their studies and provides a unique opportunity to showcase innovative research done at the University of Idaho.
In Spring 2016, the College of Graduate Studies hosted the first University of Idaho Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) Competition. The competition was a success, but only doctoral students were allowed to compete, so the College of Graduate studies hosted a competition that allowed master's students to compete against each other as well in Spring 2017. Now both master's and doctoral students will get the chance to hone their presentation skills to prepare for their upcoming defenses.
