U of I Awards for Excellence

The awards below are presented by the College of Graduate Studies. University Awards for Excellence are given out to students and faculty to recognize and encourage excellence in teaching, mentoring, and scholarly and creative activity.

Award recipients are announced every March and celebrated at the Excellence Awards Ceremony at the end of the semester. The 2024 event is yet to be announced.

Donald Crawford Graduate Faculty Mentoring Award

APPLICATIONS DUE BY Friday, Jan. 26, 2024 at 5 p.m. PST

This award was established in 2006 to honor the efforts of graduate faculty who excel as mentors of graduate students and was named for its first recipient, Donald L. Crawford. This award is part of the College of Graduate Studies’ continuing efforts to support excellent mentoring of graduate students at the University of Idaho. Many forms of mentoring exist throughout the graduate school experience, including service as major professor, committee service, advising student organizations, advocacy for graduate students and connections to professional networks. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to nominate outstanding faculty mentors for this award.


Outstanding Graduate Student Research and Creative Activity Award

APPLICATIONS DUE BY Friday, Jan. 26, 2024 at 5 p.m. PST

This award is part of the College of Graduate Studies’ continuing efforts to recognize and encourage excellence in research and creative activity by graduate students at the University of Idaho. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to nominate outstanding graduate students for this award.


Outstanding Graduate Student Teaching Award

APPLICATIONS DUE BY Friday, Jan. 26, 2024 at 5 p.m. PST

This award is part of the College of Graduate Studies’ continuing efforts to support and recognize outstanding teaching by graduate students at the University of Idaho. Many forms of teaching exist throughout the graduate school experience, including teaching classes and labs, mentoring and advising students and assisting professors in teaching and developing course materials for on-campus and off-campus students.


Post-Doctoral Mentoring Award

APPLICATIONS DUE BY Friday, Jan. 26, 2024, at 5 p.m. PST

The post-doctoral mentoring award is to recognize faculty who have demonstrated exceptional support and guidance for University of Idaho post-doctoral scholars/fellows. The award is presented by the College of Graduate Studies and the Office of Research and Economic Development.


Outstanding Post-Doctoral Scholar/Fellow Award

APPLICATIONS DUE BY Friday, Jan. 26, 2024 at 5 p.m. PST

The Outstanding post-doctoral scholar/fellow award is part of the continuing effort by the College of Graduate Studies and Office of Research and Economic Development to recognize and encourage excellence in research and other creative activities by post-doctoral fellows at the University of Idaho. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to nominate an outstanding post-doctoral scholar/fellow for this award.
