Outstanding Post-Doctoral Scholar/Fellow Award

Description

The Outstanding post-doctoral scholar/fellow award is part of the continuing effort by the College of Graduate Studies and Office of Research and Economic Development to recognize and encourage excellence in research and other creative activities by post-doctoral fellows at the University of Idaho. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to nominate an outstanding post-doctoral scholar/fellow for this award.

Eligibility

Nominees must be post-docs who are currently employed at the University of Idaho and have demonstrated extraordinary efforts in their research or creative work and have fully engaged with the University of Idaho community of faculty, staff, and students.

Selection Criteria

  • Quality, significance and extent of research, teaching, or creative accomplishments.
  • Efforts to engage with the entire campus community as a professional development opportunity.
  • Communication of scholarly works to appropriate audiences.
  • Engagement with students and faculty/staff in the classroom or laboratory.

The Award

The award recipient will receive a plaque recognizing the award and $1000. The awards will be announced at the University of Idaho Excellence Awards Ceremony in April.

Nomination Process

Nominations must be emailed as a single PDF document to Kathy Duke (kdude@uidaho.edu) using the subject line “Outstanding Post-Doc Award” by Friday, Jan. 25, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. PST. COGS will not forward incomplete nominations for review. It is the duty of the Nominator and Nominee to gather all necessary materials for a completed nomination application. Nominations must adhere to the length guidelines below.

The nomination packet must include:

  1. A letter, signed by the nominator, which includes the nominee’s name, unit, college, and progress in professional development activities. The nomination letter should describe in detail the quality, significance, and extent of the research or creative activity, the engagement of the nominee in the overall functioning of the research program and department activities, and the efforts the nominee has engaged in to develop academic, research, and professional skills. The letter should not exceed three pages. Nominators may make only one nomination; multiple letters from a single nominator will not be accepted. The nomination letter must be clearly identified as a nomination letter.
  2. A brief (2-3 page) personal statement from the nominee outlining their accomplishments, and alignment of their accomplishment to their professional goals, while a post-doc at the University of Idaho.
  3. A curriculum vita that clearly lists the nominee’s publications, patents, and professional development activities accomplished at U of I.
  4. Two additional letters of support which demonstrate how the nominees research or creative activity will impact their field. The support letters must be clearly marked "letter of support" rather than a nomination letter.

Selection Process/Deadline

An interdisciplinary committee selected by COGS and the U of I Office of Research and Economic Development and composed of faculty and post-doctoral scholars/fellows who are part of the U of I Post-doctoral Association will review and select the winner.
