Scholarship Opportunties

Scholarships are available to Renewable Materials students as well as opportunities through the College of Natural Resources. Financial assistance within the program is largely in the form of graduate assistantships funded by individual research projects or teaching assistantships. Graduate programs generally involve field work, data analysis, class work, a final thesis or dissertation and a defense. Additional financial aid is available through Student Financial Aid Services at 208-885-6312.

Berklund Undergraduate Research Scholar Award
The Curt and Adele Berklund Undergraduate Research Scholar Award recognizes undergraduate research in an applied field of natural resources. Berklund awards may be used to fund a variety of faculty-supervised research activities. Students are encouraged to participate in ongoing faculty research projects in which the student assists a faculty member or graduate student with research in progress. All enrolled undergraduate students in the College of Natural Resources are eligible to apply for the one-year, $2,000 research awards.

BMC West Scholarship
Awarded to deserving students in renewable materials business management or renewable materials wood construction and design. Selected students should show leadership potential and proven scholastic ability.

Clare and Myrtle Hendee, John Hendee and Fran Hendee Scholarship

For students with financial need.

Dean Dwight Jeffers Scholarship
Preference will be given to students who have completed their freshman year. Financial need is a consideration.

Experimental Forest Logging Crew Scholarship

Must be a member of the UI experimental forest logging crew.

Jay and Jan Gruenfeld Endowment for Communications
Leadership and Teaching Excellence. The purpose is to provide supplemental funding for high-achieving students to pursue a leadership career, participation in seminars, meetings, workshops, or undergraduate research with the need for financial assistance. Involvement in extracurricular activities in a leadership capacity is a consideration.

Klaue Scholarship
Renewable materials Enrolled full time as a renewable materials major.

Lewis Clark Building Contractor's Association Scholarship
Members of UI student chapter of NAHB (National Association of Home Builders)

Lloyd L. Shawver Forest Engineering Scholarship
Graduate and undergraduate students. Preference to students in forest engineering and forest management. Based on academics, leadership, potential and need.

Marvin Klemme Centennial Scholarship
Students with academic achievement and leadership potential.

Riley Creek Lumber Scholarship
Undergraduates and graduate students with ability and leadership potential. Preference given to students studying renewable materials, forest resources and fisheries.

Roger L. Guernsey Forestry Scholarship
For students with five years of residence in Idaho. "Guernsey scholars" will be invited by Roger to plant a tree in the Scholar's Grove at Pinestia.

Society of American Foresters Diversity Scholarship
Enrolled undergraduates or graduates with an interest in forestry or natural resources as a career. Willingness to serve as diversity ambassador to help the diversity committee. Desire to encourage into the forestry profession a variety of people in terms of race, ethnic background, religion, age, gender and disabilities as well as the diversity of geography, employer groups, philosophies and career choices. Applicants are not required to be affiliated with SAF.

For individuals who have a high potential for leadership.

Howe Forest Products Scholarship
Undergraduates in renewable materials.

John R. Dale Wood Technology Scholarship
Renewable materials, undergraduate student.

Lawrence and Eleanor Areson Sholarship

Eubanks Excellence Scholarship
New out-of-state freshman or transfers with 3.0 GPA.

Leonard and Ella Churchill Scholarship
Preference to students from Kellogg, Mullan, or Wallace, Idaho

Howard E. Ahlskog Scholarship
For individuals within CNR who maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher.

Russell Oliver Memorial Scholarship

Sophomores, juniors, or seniors who participate on the Logger Sports Team.

Wallace and Dorothy Monnett Scholarship
Applicant must be a sophomore by the fall semester. Eligible for sophomore, junior, senior CNR majors only. Demonstrated academic merit, career promise, initiative in the pursuit of a college education financial need (as determined through a submitted FAFSA form).
