About the Program

If you're looking for a rewarding career that blends principles of fire ecology, technology and management, with a passion for our wildlands―welcome home! The Wildland Fire Program is one of the premier programs in the United States and is internationally-recognized for wildland fire education and research. Outreach from the program provides scientifically-based information that serves the needs of citizens of the state, region, nation and world. To help you achieve your personal and professional goals, we offer the only Bachelor of Science in Fire Ecology Management available in the United States. We also offer a Master of Science degree in Natural Resources (M.S.N.R) with a Fire Ecology and Management emphasis, as a well as a P.h.D program.


Get ready to thrive in the field of fire science with a degree from the University of Idaho. Whatever your ambitions in the realm of fire science our program will deliver. We have been educating and working with leaders in fire education, research and outreach for more than 30 years.  Students also have the option to earn an undergraduate or graduate-level certificate in wildland fire, or a minor in fire ecology and management. Trusted as a thought-leader, the College of Natural Resources also offers courses online to fire professionals across the U.S. and the world.
