Tom Newsome - "Good or evil: What role for the dingo in Australia?"

Dr. Thomas Newsome is a Lecturer (Academic Fellow) and he leads the Global Ecology Lab in the School of Life and Environmental Sciences at The University of Sydney, Australia. His research addresses how species respond to human-induced changes to the landscape. He is particularly interested in how humans and top-order predators shape and drive ecosystem processes. Over the last decade he has primarily conducted research on the ecology of dingoes, red foxes and feral cats in Australia, and wolves and mountain lions in North America. In 2013, Dr Newsome received a Fulbright Scholarship to conduct postdoctoral research at Oregon State University and The University of Washington. He now co-leads a study in Washington State assessing the ecosystem effects of recolonizing grey wolves in human-modified landscapes. His research in the USA has been integral to resolving long-standing debates about the ecological roles of dingoes in Australia, and understanding how best to minimize conflicts between humans and large carnivores globally.
