"Idaho needs to be grounded in producing base products and products of the future. This will give us our competitive advantage. The industry has to invest in the future to survive and not be dependent solely on the housing market."
-Armando McDonald, University of Idaho Professor of Wood Chemistry and Wood Composites
A Research Hot Spot Visiting Scientists
In addition to industry-leading research being performed and managed by Professors Thomas Gorman and Armando McDonald, Wood Chemistry and Wood Composites, the Biomaterials Lab also hosts prominent visiting scientists from around the country, such as:
- Zeki Candan, PhD Candidate and Graduate Research Assistant Department of Forest Products Engineering, Istanbul University, Turkey− In the summer of 2009, Zeki conducted research looking into how to improve the strength and other physical properties of plywood and related engineered products. Specifically he looked into strategies for densifying raw veneers.
- Tova Sardot, P.h.D. student, University of Montana− Working in the Biomaterials Lab a portion of Tova’s research focused on the utilization of waste materials that come from the manufacture of corrugated cardboard from recycled fibers.
