B.A./B.S. Sociology—Criminology Emphasis

Exploring Crime and its Consequences

Are you curious about why people engage in crime? Do you want to know what strategies local communities and criminal justice agencies are using to prevent crime?  In this program, you will study of the causes and consequences of crime. Coursework in criminology helps students develop an understanding of the factors that influence crime, the effectiveness of crime control policies, and the broader social, cultural, and political context of crime and justice. Students take a wide range of courses exploring crime and criminality, including juvenile delinquency, social deviance, violent crime, white collar crime, psychopathy, crime & social inequality, and terrorism. In addition, students examine the organization and impact of criminal justice agencies, such as policing, courts, law, and corrections. The goal of the program is to help students gain a comprehensive understanding of the complex social forces that shape crime and the criminal justice system.
