- B.M. Music Education – Choral Emphasis
Madeline Smith comes to the Lionel Hampton School of Music from Colorado, where she enjoyed lots of sunshine and hiking tall mountains. She has a bachelor’s degree in Music Education with a Choral Emphasis from the University of Colorado at Boulder, where she was a teaching assistant for the President's Leadership class and Drum Major of the Golden Buffalo Marching Band. After college, Madeline taught kindergarten through 8th grade general music for a number of years in Colorado Springs. In her role there, Madeline taught jazz on Orff instruments and directed musicals each year involving over 200 students ages 5-14.
Madeline loves learning and has recently taken trainings she is very proud of. In the last year, she has completed her Orff Level 1 Certification, completed two different 200 hour Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Certifications (one of which was specifically for educators with a Social Justice emphasis), and traveled to Ghana to study music and music teaching with Orff teachers from around the world. In the previous year, she took Doug Goodkin's Orff Jazz training in San Francisco, CA.
Madeline currently serves as the Music Minister at First Presbyterian Church and as a teaching assistant conductor in Mixed Choir and Vandaleers.
