Calvin Kong is a native of Penang, Malaysia. He earned his bachelor's with a major in Music from Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Peter, Minn. While at Gustavus, Kong studied piano with Dr. Esther Wang and Richard Tostensen. Kong is pursuing his master's in Piano Pedagogy and Performance at the Lionel Hampton School of Music, University of Idaho. As a teaching assistant at the School of Music, Kong teaches class piano and private piano lessons in the preparatory division, and accompanies instrumentalists and vocalists. Kong is also a member of the Music Teachers National Association Collegiate Chapter at the U of I, and Pi Kappa Lambda Honors Music Society. Aside from piano, Kong also enjoys playing the flute. He studied flute with James DeVoll and performed regularly with the Gustavus Wind Orchestra during his undergraduate studies, and with Musica Sinfonietta back at home. During his free time, Kong enjoys playing badminton with friends. His other interests include photography, traveling and cooking.
