Whatever your goal — pursuing a doctorate, teaching English abroad, or publishing your creative work — our distinguished faculty are dedicated to helping you achieve it. There are typically 70-80 graduate students in English enrolled each semester, and students and faculty work together closely. Graduate students sponsor monthly colloquia to share their work and to socialize.
The Department of English offers three different graduate programs:
Our Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing is for those who plan a career as a professional writer or teacher of writing.
Our Master of Arts in English allows a student to focus on such areas as literature, literary criticism and theory, and rhetoric and composition.
Our Master of Arts in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) degree provides students with the theory and practice necessary to teach English as a second language.
