Chinese Movie Night

The University of Idaho Confucius Institute would like to invite you to join us for our monthly Chinese Movie Night! Each film will have a brief introduction by our visiting South China University of Technology instructors, who are specialists in Chinese cinema and film culture. The audience will have the opportunity to discuss the film and its cultural significance at its conclusion. Admission is free and open to the public.

Sha Gen, an earnest and innocent carpenter returning home from Tibet to be married, confidently carries his entire five years of savings on his person. He is a man who firmly believes that thieves do not exist in the world. But a host of skilled and professional criminals soon shadow Sha Gen, awaiting the chance to deprive him of his treasure. One thief, however, is moved by Sha Gen's naïve world view and decides to intervene to protect him. Can she convince her partner to join her? Or will she find herself alone against a world of thieves?


A 2004 action drama adapted from the 1999 novelette, directed by Feng Xiaogang. Starring Andy Lau, Rene Liu, Ge You and Li Bingbing.
