"America's a cappella pride and joy."

Chanticleer

Program - Love, always

Love, always and forever. It’s the inexhaustible inspiration for music which explores, explains, soothes, exalts, and excites. Composers beloved by Chanticleer audiences in the repertoire for which we are famous have plenty to say about love, sacred, profane and other. Morley, Gibbons, Palestrina, Janequin will remind us that love has always and ever offered the same dilemmas and delights. A less often sung composer for us is Bohuslav Martinů, with madrigals that evoke love for the Virgin Mary. Favorites of yours and ours are Jean-Yves Daniel Lesur and Sir John Tavener. Sir John’s Village Wedding is one of the compositions we know you love the most. Contemporary voices of yearning and reward include Steven Sametz, whose Not an end of loving is included. From our recently developed pop repertoire will come Hamburg Song and Mirror Ball, by Keane and Elbow. Singer songwriter and former ensemble member Matt Alber debuts as a composer on a Chanticleer program with two original compositions, paired with Whitney Houston’s hit I Wanna Dance With Somebody, and expressing the aspiration to love in the most simple and heartfelt way.
