What is an Elevator Pitch?
An "elevator pitch" is an overview of an idea for a product, service, or project. The name reflects the fact that an elevator pitch should be possible to deliver in the time span of an elevator ride. While a typical elevator pitch is at least 1 minute, a reception pitch will likely be a bit longer, and might be more interactive.
The term is typically used in the context of an entrepreneur pitching an idea to a venture capitalist or angel investor to receive funding. Venture capitalists often judge the quality of an idea and team on the basis of the quality of its elevator pitch, and will ask entrepreneurs for the elevator pitches to weed out bad ideas and weak teams. A variety of other people, including entrepreneurs, project managers, salespeople, policy-makers, and job seekers commonly use elevator pitches to get their point across quickly.
Why should I participate?
As a participant, you will gain excellent feedback on your ability to pitch from a team of judges who are business leaders and entrepreneurs in their own right. Additionally, you will be eligible to win cash prizes. You will gain valuable experience learning how to "work a reception."
Who is eligible to compete?
Any registered University of Idaho student, either part-time or full-time, can compete in the VIEW Elevator Pitch Competition. Students from ANY college major can participate and are strongly encouraged to do so. Only ONE person can perform the actual 2-minute elevator pitch, but the team members can attend and support the speaker.
Why is it the “Wells Fargo” elevator pitch competition?
Wells Fargo is the primary sponsor of VIEW, including the elevator pitch competition. Without the generous financial support of Wells Fargo the elevator pitch competition would not be possible.
How do I register?
