Message from Dean Mario Reyes
Welcome to the College of Business and Economics at the University of Idaho. We are committed to being a leader in integrated business education through innovative and transformational learning experiences. Since 1994, our award-winning Integrated Business Curriculum (IBC) has been providing a systems view of organizational problem solving, and we will continue to seek ways to keep the IBC relevant and scalable.
The classrooms in our state-of-the-art J.A. Albertson Building are only the beginning of our undergraduate students’ educational experience. Our students also enjoy a menu of hands-on learning experiences such the Barker Capital Management and Trading Program, the A.D. and J.E. Davis Student Investment Program, Vandal Solutions, Business Process Management Center and our university-wide entrepreneurship program, Vandal Innovation and Enterprise Works (VIEW). In the spring 2012 semester we opened the CareerCenter@CBE, where a selected group of Management/Human Resources (MHR) students serve CBE students under the tutelage of a Career Service professional and a MHR faculty mentor. Our students also have participated in faculty-led study trips to Italy, China, Macedonia, Japan and the Philippines to learn more about the challenges and opportunities in international business.
Our Executive MBA (EMBA) program (delivered face-to-face in Coeur d’Alene) builds upon our experience in integrated management education and features a curriculum that is built around the thematic areas in decision-making and execution, globalization, relationships, sustainability and leadership. The EMBA program joins our very successful Master of Accountancy program, which also was developed in response to stakeholder demand. The CBE holds AACSB Accreditation and also holds an additional AACSB accounting accreditation for the Department of Accounting (28 percent of accredited institutions have a separate accounting accreditation).
Finally, we are excited about continuing existing working relationships as well as reconnecting with many alumni and friends. Alumni engagement and support is critical to all of the success and accomplishments outlined above. The Inspiring Futures campaign is going to help move the College of Business and Economics to a new level of capability and maintain excellence in our focus areas of integrated curriculum and experiential learning. This is an exciting time as we work to enhance our support of our students, faculty, staff and programs. Go Vandals!
