Dr. Scott Hutchins, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Deputy Under Secretary for Research, Education and Economics
Scott Hutchins, Ph.D., oversees the Research, Education and Economics mission area responsibilities for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, including the Agricultural Research Service (ARS), the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA), the Economic Research Service (ERS) and the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS).
Building on generations of successful innovations, USDA recognizes the role scientific research plays in spawning innovation and supports maintaining a vigorous research infrastructure as an ‘Ag Innovation Ecosystem’ with public- and private-sector goals aligned. The USDA Science Blueprint and Ag Innovation Agenda were both designed with these outcomes and goals in mind.
Hutchins is a board-certified entomologist, adjunct professor of entomology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, past president of the Entomological Society of America (ESA), fellow of ESA and honorary member of ESA. He received a bachelors in entomology from Auburn University, a masters in entomology from Mississippi State University and a doctorate in entomology from Iowa State University.
